How to Tell Whether Your Sump Pump Is Working

It’s important that you make sure your sump pump is working before your basement actually floods. This way, you can get your pump fixed or replaced before disaster strikes.

One of the easiest ways to test your pump is to pour buckets of water into the sump pit. If the pump is working properly, it will pump the water outside when the water reaches the appropriate level to activate the switch. If the pump isn’t working, a few things might happen:

Any or all of these situations may call for pump replacement. The average life expectancy of a sump pump is 4-7 years. We also recommend the installation of a battery powered back up sump system for additional protection.  We offer two systems and are happy to discuss which would be best for you! One more problem you might encounter is that the sump pump trips the circuit breaker every time it comes on. This happens when water gets into the electrical cord of the pump or if the wiring isn’t strong enough to handle the pump’s horsepower.
